SYSTEM THAT SUITS YOUR NEED

Expertise comes into play when providing stellar customer service. On a DIY project, it may be unclear what type of HVAC unit is best for your home or office. Size, layout, windows, and a myriad of other factors will determine what kind of unit is right for you. Should it start in the attic, or should you go ductless? How much power do you need? We know what’s available and what’s the perfect fit for you. This will make sure you get the most efficient system possible, keeping you comfortable, and keeping cash in your pocket.

SAFETY

This one’s easy. If you’re not sure how your heating or air conditioning units work, call an expert. Any sort of electrical work can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. Let the experts at The Bosworth Company help. Natural gas and emissions, if not set up properly, could be deadly. It’s Worth the Call.

DETERMINING THE PROBLEM

This may be the most obvious reason to call an HVAC pro. Oftentimes, if your HVAC unit isn’t running properly you may not even be able to diagnose the problem. Let us help. A misdiagnosis could lead to even more problems.

AIR QUALITY

One thing you can’t measure inside your home or office is air quality. You can tell if it’s bad, or if dust is accumulating around your home, but without the proper tools, you can’t really measure it. The experts at The Bosworth Company can not only find out the exact quality, they can figure out what’s causing a problem and fix it.

You may not realize all of the services that The Bosworth Company offers. In fact, our services include the installation of attic insulation. With cooler weather upon us, it may be something you’ve been thinking about.

Having proper insulation is a win-win for your comfort. It keeps your home cool in the summer, and warm in the winter. At The Bosworth Company, we use loose-fill fiberglass insulation. Here’s some information on insulation and how it can be applied:

METHOD 1: ROLL OUT

Fiberglass batts can be rolled out across your attic. This is common in older homes and is likely what you’ve seen before. Unfortunately, fiberglass batts are a much less efficient way to insulate your home compared to newer methods. However, they are still very popular due to the cost and ease of insulation.

METHOD 2: LET IT SNOW

Most newer homes and businesses exclusively use “loose-fill” fiberglass. It’s installed by blowing what looks like puffs of snow throughout your attic. This is considered much more efficient because, unlike the fiberglass batts, each piece of insulation will fill in all the space in your attic. The spray will settle evenly across the attic, even in places that the angle of the roof may make it hard to reach.

You can purchase blocks of loose-fill fiberglass at your hardware store, then rent a machine that will blow it into your attic. But use caution: though this can be a DIY project, it is not recommended. Not only is it difficult, but the fiberglass can be dangerous if breathed in. We recommend hiring a professional like us at The Bosworth Company.

HOW WE CAN HELP

Save the trip to the hardware store, and hire The Bosworth Company to handle your attic insulation installation. We’ll take a look at the specific needs of your home and attic and come up with a plan to keep you comfortable and save you money. Call today at 830-428-2764 or schedule an appointment online! The insulation in your attic works two ways: it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Providing and installing quality insulation is just one of the many services The Bosworth Company offers. One of the critical parts of selecting the proper insulation for your home or office is selecting the proper R-Value. In this post, we will explore what that means, and how you can find the correct value for you.

WHAT IS AN R-VALUE

The R-Value is a rating related to home insulation. By definition, it measures how well the thickness of the insulation resists heat flow. As we will learn in this post, the R-Value is important, but it is not the only factor when determining the effectiveness and efficiency of your insulation.

HOW IT WORKS

The primary purpose of insulation is to prevent the spread of heat. Insulation keeps the heat in place whether you want to stay warm or cool. Heat moves around your home in four ways:

  • Conduction
  • Convection
  • Radiation
  • Infiltration

Conduction is the only factor considered when measuring the R-Value.

A variety of factors dictate how insulation and heat/cooling impact your home.

For instance, there are external factors like wind, humidity, and changes in temperature, and internal factors like air and wind pressure, and the overall quality of an HVAC unit.

APPLICATION

Whether your insulation consists of fiberglass batts (more common in older homes) or loose-fill fiberglass (used in newer homes and buildings), the R-Value has an impact on effectiveness.

At The Bosworth Company, we use loose-fill Insul-Safe III fiberglass insulation. This can be sprayed into the attic area to fill in every crack and crevice to help prevent heat from escaping your home. Schedule an appointment online or call us today at 830-428-2764. It’s worth the call!

The HVAC world is filled with acronyms. HVAC stands for Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning. While most people know that one, it’s not very helpful when you aren’t familiar with an acronym. In this post, we’ll discuss the SEER rating.

What is SEER?

The SEER rating is a number listed on those yellow Energy Guide stickers that accompany air conditioning units. SEER stands for “Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio”. It’s basically a formula to determine the efficiency of your appliance. In a nutshell, it’s the cooling output, divided by the energy output. The “seasonal” part of the equation means that the system considers the number of hot and cold days over a typical “season.” A high rating means high efficiency. High efficiency means more bang for your buck. Easy, right?

SEER Ratings

An air conditioner’s SEER rating ranges from about 13 to 25. Modern systems, are already quite a bit more efficient than an older unit. Older A/C units may commonly have a rating of only 7 or 8. Similar to the miles-per-gallon on a car, the SEER rating represents the efficiency output in optimum conditions. So output and performance could vary based on conditions and usage.

Buying Your Next HVAC Unit

So what’s the real value of an increased SEER rating? Is it worth purchasing a more expensive unit with a higher rating? High-end units will be more efficient and save you money in the long run. In places like Texas, where every summer is long and hot, a quality A/C unit is probably worth it.

If you’re ready to make the call, contact the Bosworth Company – Kerrville at 830-428-2764 or schedule an appointment online. We’ll match you with the model to fit your budget, and our experts will install it for maximum efficiency. The Bosworth Company. Worth the Call. Always.

You’re probably familiar with some of the visible impacts of hard water. Stains in the toilet, soap scum on the tub. But you can definitely taste hard water, too! The minerals that gather in the water as it makes its way to your home have a flavor as well… and it isn’t good! Most people who live in areas that are impacted by hard water only drink bottled water. But this is expensive and inconvenient. In this post, we’ll discuss a few ways you can make your water taste better.

SOLUTIONS FOR BETTER TASTING WATER

  1. Buy a filter: A simple filter can be a short-term solution to poor-tasting water. Just fill up the pitcher at the tap, and let it do its thing. This is a very cost-effective solution. The only real cost is purchasing the filter. Depending on the quality, some may feel the actual taste is only minimally improved. After a while, the filter itself will clog (with the minerals that make it taste bad in the first place) and have to be replaced. So, this a very cost-effective solution, but not a permanent one.

  2. Reverse Osmosis: The Bosworth Company can install a reverse osmosis filtration system straight to your water source. Since it works with the tank, it will improve the quality of water coming out of every faucet. R.O. water is cleaner and better tasting than traditional filters, due to an enhanced filtering process. R.O. is considered a more complete, permanent solution.

  3. Water softener: A water softener will also make your water taste better. It’s a similar process as reverse osmosis, but the scientific process is slightly different. Water softeners are generally considered an excellent complement to reverse osmosis systems.

WORTH THE CALL

At the Bosworth Company, we have a variety of water softening and reverse osmosis options available. Give us a call at 830-428-2764 or schedule an appointment online today. The Bosworth Company. Worth the Call. Always.

Of all the household chores, dusting may be the most frustrating. You wipe down furniture, countertops, even baseboards all over the house. A day or, in some cases, only a few hours later it seems there’s already more dust build-up. Why does this happen and is there a way to prevent (or at least reduce) it?

VACUUMING

Of course, vacuuming helps clean your carpet, but it can actually cause just as many problems as it solves. That’s because you’re stirring up all the dust and dust mites that have settled on the carpet, and sending them into the air. From there they land on your furniture (or even worse, in your nose)! In general, hardwood or tile floors are better at keeping the dust away, but if you’ve got carpet throughout your home, there is a solution. Make sure your vacuum has a HEPA rated filter. HEPA stands for “High-Efficiency Particulate Rate” and means you’ll capture a majority of dust in the vacuum instead of letting it escape.

AIR FILTERS

If your A/C evaporator coil gets dusty…you’re toast! It will send dusty air throughout your home. This happens when you don’t have the proper type of filters. If it seems like your filters don’t get dusty, but your bedroom furniture does, that could be an indicator that your filters aren’t catching the dust they should. You can fix this by making sure your filters have a higher MERV rating. But beware – a better filter will get dirty sooner, which means it also needs to be changed more often. Not doing so could damage your HVAC unit.

AIR DUCT LEAKS

If there are tears or leaks in your duct system, not only will they decrease airflow, they could also pull dust from the attic into your living spaces. If you notice that some rooms are hotter or colder than others, or you can’t feel the air coming from the vents, you possibly have air duct leaks.

HOW WE CAN HELP WITH DUST

The Bosworth Company can help by running a pressure test on your ducts to determine where the air is escaping or dust is getting in. If you are ready to make an appointment, give us a call at 830-428-2764 or schedule an appointment online. The Bosworth Company. Worth the Call. Always!

Of all the things that homeowners dread, this is one of the very worst. You’re at home, with family, enjoying yourself, and generally minding your own business. Life seems great. Then something catches your eye. It looks like a water stain on your ceiling. Nooo! It’s not raining and your roof is new. What could be the problem? The answer is likely in the attic with your drain line.

CHECK THE DRAIN PAN

Especially if your A/C unit is in the attic, the problem is likely a clogged drain pan. Turn off your A/C then head to the attic and find the drain pan. Condensation that’s generated by air conditioning is supposed to drain through a pipe that leads outside your home. But if there’s a clog in the line, water will stay in the pan. The drain pan should be dry. If there’s too much water in the pan, it will overflow, leading to stains and water damage on your ceiling…which could turn into a very expensive headache.

The bottom line: clogged drain = full drain pan = ceiling stains = possible significant damage

You can try to unclog it on your own, but navigating the lines can be difficult. We suggest you call an expert.

WE CAN HELP WITH A CLOGGED DRAIN LINE

Here in the hill country, we’re already starting to see some cooler temperatures, and we can expect many more cool days to come. The transition time between fall and winter is the perfect time to get your HVAC unit checked out. The Bosworth Company Kerrville offers a variety of services specifically designed for the fall. Our “Fall Clean and Check” is only $99 for a home unit. We’ll make sure your system is clean, efficient, and ready for the winter to come. And if you have a clogged drain, we can take care of that, too. Give us a call today at 830-428-2764 or schedule an appointment online. The Bosworth Company. Worth the call. Always.

The Bosworth Company is staffed with experts you can trust for all your HVAC and plumbing needs. Part of that means keeping up with the latest trends in improving efficiency and making sure you are educated to make decisions about what’s best for you. In today’s blog, we’re going to discuss ductless HVAC systems, also called mini-split systems, which are growing in popularity, and may be a good fit for you and your home.

GOING DUCTLESS

In a typical home, you could be losing as much as 25% (!!!) of your energy output because of traditional ductwork. In an age when efficiency is king (both financially and environmentally), going ductless could be a way to solve this problem. They work similarly to older window or wall units, only with some modern features. Unlike traditional window units, ductless A/C unit is small and only requires a small hole for mounting. This helps isolate the unit so that they focus on specific rooms that need to be heated or cooled. The ducts running through your attic no longer have access to the already-treated air that’s costing you money. Proper installation could save 30% in your HVAC bills for the area you are cooling.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

As with any new system, there are some things to consider. In colder climates, the ductless units may not be able to provide the same level of reliable, lasting heat as a gas-powered heater. (Though it does get cold here, this is not much of a concern in Texas.)

One of the big advantages of a duct system is aesthetics. Even though the newer ductless units are minimal, they still exist in your space, and some may not prefer the look. Our sleek models are designed with aesthetics and minimal invasiveness in mind to ensure the best look possible.

Like many of the products we offer, there is often an upfront cost that comes with going with a more efficient system. The same is true if you decide to go ductless. The cost to place ductless units in your entire home can sometimes be more expensive than replacing your ductwork. However, the more efficient system would mean you could save up to 30% on your energy bill going forward.

If you’d like to explore going ductless, call The Bosworth Company at 830-428-2764 or schedule an appointment online. Worth the call. Always.

Yes, even in Texas it gets cold in the winter. And who doesn’t enjoy a long, hot shower to help you thaw out after some time outside? Unless you have a tankless water heater, your shower may be hot, but it’s just a matter of time before it begins to cool. Or maybe you have company, and you’re third (or fourth) in line for the bathroom. By the time you get your turn, what’s coming out of the faucet is lukewarm… at best. That’s because traditional water heaters only heat as much water as can fit in the tank. Once you run through the 40-50 gallons of pre-heated water in the tank, you’re out of hot water.

THE SOLUTION

With a tankless water heater, you will not run out of hot water. You can stay in that hot shower for as long as you want. The best part is that a tankless water heater will save you money, too! That’s because the heating mechanism only uses electricity when you actually need it. This is in contrast to a traditional water tank, which is constantly burning energy to keep the water in the tank warm, which saves you money in the long run.

When you turn on the faucet, sensors detect the water flow. That prompts the fan to turn on, which draws in air from the outside, opens the valve, and lights the burner. The burner is critical because it heats the exchanger that heats the water before it comes out of the faucet and hits your skin. The system’s valves are critical as well, making sure the temperature stays hot, but not too hot.

NORITZ TANKLESS WATER HEATERS

The Bosworth Company is proud to offer Noritz Tankless Water Heaters. Noritz hot water heaters feature a compact design, and don’t take up space like traditional hot water tanks. Noritz water heaters are durable, require little maintenance, and when purchased through The Bosworth Company, offer competitive warranties.

If you’d like to save money and guarantee endless hot water, give The Bosworth Company a call today at 830-428-2764 or schedule an appointment online! Worth the call. Always.
