We’ve previously discussed some of the advantages of the Lennox PureAir system, specifically focusing on the quality of pure air that it produces. In this post, we’ll continue that discussion, with a closer look at its filters, air filtering in general, and how it helps to remove odors.
LENNOX PUREAIR FILTERS
Every PureAir filter comes with a MERV rating of 16. MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, and represents how many particles filters are able to catch as air passes through. A 16 rating means that it captures many of those contaminants to prevent them from circulating in your home. The filters are HEPA, which stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestance. A Lennox PureAir can capture particles as small as 0.1 microns. That’s about 1/250,000 of an inch! Not much is getting through these filters. They are the highest quality of “hospital grade” filters.
TYPES OF FILTERS
There are two primary types of air filters, and it’s important to know the difference. Disposable air filters, which are the most common, are better at catching small particles. Things like dust, bacteria, pet dander, and other allergens. The MERV rating can be as high as 16, and should generally be replaced at least every six months. A washable air filter saves you a trip to the store but generally isn’t as effective. You should wash them about once a month.
REMOVING ODORS
PureAir filters are very effective at removing odors. The filter includes a carbon coating that is “treated with oxygen.” That’s a common ingredient to remove odors and bad tastes from water. Carbon-coated filters are even used in cigarettes to help lessen the impact of smoke. While the carbon coating alone doesn’t clear contaminants from the air, it does have an impact on removing odors. When working as part of the PureAir filter, you’ll be breathing clean, healthy, and odorless air!
